The Pursuit of Truth

T

“What is truth?”

-Pontius Pilate

It’s important when you talk of “truth” to acknowledge its possible existence. If you do not believe that there can be truth—incontrovertible truth—then it’s meaningless to have a discussion on the topic. If there can be no certainty, no absolute, then there is really no basis for discussion in the first place, other than idle entertainment. The presumption in a discussion of facts and ideas is that there is a truth that can be discovered.

Certainly there are opinions. Theories. Ideas. These are not truth. These are conjecture based upon knowable facts, mixed with worldview and presumptions that lead us to a reasonable and logical conclusion which we then act upon. But this is not truth.

So what is truth?
